Retaining Walls as Canvases

Today I walked down to the beach near my home with my friend Shirley & her dog Miles. There were paintings on every retaining wall. There were no political messages like in Chiapas, just tags, which are a glorification of the graffiti artists' name.

The following four masks are some that embellish my bedroom. The first is a wooden mask that I bought at the African Pavilion at the 1964 New York World's Fair. I worked at the African Pavilion for 6 months. The Lotte Dog mask is made by Sylvi, the plastered earphone mask I made in a Greek mask workshop & the palm frond mask turned up at the Sally Ann.

Reflections of Downtown Vancouver

These four photos are on my way home as I walk from Harbour Dance Centre to Kitsilano, where I live. We have had the driest February on record & the temperatures have been 12 degrees centigrade in the day. That is about 55 fahrenheit I believe. Not bad for winter.

My Walk Home from Dance Class

I have begun to carry my camera with me again. The following are some shots I took on my walk through downtown, over the Burrard bridge and through Kitsilano after Jay Hirabayashi's grueling yet gratifying two hour butoh/modern dance class. My arthritis loves to be walked home.

Contrasting Climates

I had my protected home environment with 75 indoor tropical plants on one side of the window & snow outside.

Family Portrait

This was taken in my house on New Year's eve 2004-5. It is my kids, their laws & commons, & I, standing in front of the family portrait my son Adad painted years ago.
